Sharing the Memories that Kenny Rogers Music has Brought Me
Sometimes its not that easy to decide where to start. In this case that is where I am. With most of the music in my life I tend to listen over and over. Its interesting how this group of songs I really have not listened to that much as of late. That is until I found it on Amazon. "shameless plug" I started looking at the songs that were available. And the memories started coming back. Remembering the different songs and what they had meant way back when.
There are 16 songs on this album and here are my top five picks along with their videos.
I Track # 7 - She Believes in Me
II Track # 3 - Lady
III Track # 1 - The Gambler
IV Track # 16 - Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer
V Track # 5 - Coward of the County
I She Believes in Me
This is probably my favorite song on this album. We have been married for over 20 years. In fact we were just looking back at how the time has passed since we first met and the years that have also passed by. Knowing what she has gone through with as a wife and mother of our three kids. When they in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer they were not kidding. And yet my wife has been there. She believes in me. Here are the some of the lines from the song that mean the most to me about how my wife makes me feel...
Lyrics
But she has faith in me
And so I go on trying faithfully
And who knows maybe on some special night
If my song is right
I can find a way
While she waits
Track # 7 - She Believes in Me
II Lady
This song was written and produced by Lionel Richie which on the video below is given credit for before the song is started. Its interesting that when I proposed to my wife that the song I had playing was Lady by Styx. And yet here is another song with the same title that makes me think of her and how much she has meant to me through the years. Again here are the first few lines from the song to let you know how much she has meant and still means to me...
Lyrics
Lady, I'm your knight in shining armor and I love you
You have made me what I am and I am yours
My love, there's so many ways I want to say I love you
Let me hold you in my arms forever more
Track # 3 - Lady
III The Gambler
Its not so much what this song means to me as just how fun it is....
Lyrics
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
Know when to run
And you are saying fun??? Yes fun! Its the fact that this is advice that can be applied to everyone. Not just those that are playing cards. Add into this equation that this song was done on the fourth season of the Muppet Show and you might start to see why I am thinking that this one is fun.
Track # 1 - The Gambler
IV Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer
When it comes to falling in love they say opposites attract. And for me my wife is the dreamer. And sorry world but I couldn't take the advice of this song. Even with how many times I have heard the song it is still not something that is going to happen. For when you fall in love it is meant to last a lifetime. Again back to the vows – until death do you part. And if the dreamer is the one seeing this lasting for years and years to come, I wish I was that dreamer.
Lyrics
Just look at you sitting there
You never looked better than tonight
Track # 16 - Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer
V Coward of the County
Lyrics
Walk away from trouble if you can
Now it don't mean you're weak
If you turn the other cheek
Yes world this is me. I was always the one the walked away. Its amazing how many times I didn't just walk but ran. How many times people would call me a chicken or even pull a knife just to see me react. And yet I felt better knowing I was doing what was right. But like Tommy I could only take so much and one day, as a senior in high school, just reacted and held someone up against the wall that attached me. No I didn't hit them just blocked their punch and held the up against the wall explaining whey they shouldn't bother me. That is until a teacher asked me what I was doing. The other kid went to the principles office and I went to the music department. Interesting how no one else bothered me after that.
Track # 5 - Coward of the County
A little something to go along with Track # 4 - Lucile
Q: What did the bicycle rider says as he was going down the hill and his tire came off?
A: You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel.
The scary part is that this is an old joke and I was able to pull it on the wife just the other day as we were coming home during rush hour. There was someone pulled off the side of the road changing a tire.
